[question] save record after a commit or rollback

Thanks for this wonderful library. It helps me a lot.

I have a question.

I need to save a record on a log table after the transaction is committed or rollbacked.

Is it possible to do this? How can I do this?

I believe you should be able to use the hooks mechanism for that

One problem with current implementation of hooks is that it doesn't work well with @Transactional decorator and async side-effects.

For eg

class UserService {
    async enqueueSignUpEmail(user) {
      await queue.publish(....);
    }
  
    @Transactional
    async createUser(user) {
       const newUser = await this.repo.insert(user);

      // Some more business logic
 
      // No way to `await` the side effect
      runOnTransactionCommit(() => this.enqueueSignUpEmail(user));

     // Some more business logic

    }
}

Even if we are able to patch runOnTransactionCommit and get the result of the callback execution (like shown below), this would still require more patching at wrapInTransaction to ensure that the side effects are awaited

export const runOnTransactionCommit = <T>(cb: () => T | Promise<T>): Promise<T> => {
  return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
    getTransactionalContextHook().once('commit', async () => {
      try {
        const result = await cb();
        resolve(result);
      } catch (error) {
        reject(error);

  });
};
