CFMessagePortCreateRemote returning null

Despite having port name(s) that begin with my App Group identifier, CFMessagePortCreateRemote is always returning null within the distributeNotification:data: method, and as a result no notifications get posted.

CFMessagePortCreateLocal is called previously and seems to work, but CreateRemote consistently fails.

Running on iOS 9.3.1, 6s.

Any suggestions?

CFMessagePortCreateRemote returning NULL is expected behavior when a process previously registered to receive a notification isn't running any longer. Can you provide more detail as to how and when you are using WFDistributedNotificationCenter?

Does posting in a different direction work?

I was attempting to use it to post notifications back and forth from a keyboard extension to its container app and vice versa. I added the notification observers using:

- (void)addObserver:(id)observer selector:(SEL)aSelector name:(NSString *)aName object:(NSString *)anObject;

Then posted a WFNotification from the keyboard using:

WFDistributedNotificationCenter *center = [[WFDistributedNotificationCenter alloc] initWithSecurityApplicationGroupIdentifier:@"group.my.groupid"];
[center postNotificationName:@"DoStuff" object:nil userInfo:nil];

This notification didn't work when I tried it, and so I dug into the logs to try to understand why. What I was seeing was that the attempt to post it was failing on line 398-9 of WFDistributedNotificationCenter.m within the method:

- (void)distributeNotification:(NSNotification *)notification data:(NSData *)data

Specifically, CFMessagePortCreateRemote always returned NULL. Which meant that no notifications were getting fired and my dreams of seamless communication between extension and container were dashed. Any suggestions?

Note that my App Group identifiers are working: I can save to shared group defaults and read again from either the extension or the container app...but I can't seem to get WFNotifications to post.

Can you confirm that your implementation is working on 9.3.1?
