As part of discussions in the May 2026 workshop, we discussed the issue of a large number of recipes not being ready to use for CMIP7 data until CMIP7 data entries with the new branded variable names were explicitly added and tested with the diagnostic scripts. The following options were discussed:
- Asking maintainers to update the recipe (would depend on whether they wanted to and are able to).
- Letting users who want to use existing recipes make changes - this could potentially include new users.
- Prioritizing recipes such as IPCC AR6 recipes, benchmarking recipes first.
- Conducting a hackathon for adding CMIP7 datasets.
This discussion is ongoing and we will keep adding to this issue till we come up with a plan that will optimally benefit the community.
