10.10.5 and other unsupported OS X versions

Thanks for your work on this!

I'm using the CPU 5690x not compatible with El Campitan (yet). But I need XCode, which is only compatible with >= 10.10.5, so 10.10.5 is what I'm using.

I use Asus GTX 970 and I just bought 2 4k monitors for them. But I can't get them to work in 60hz.

Is there a workaround for this version of OS X? Would appreciate an answer so much.

I bought 2 Asus 4k monitirs and tried all tricks in the book but I couldn't get even one it to work in 60hz. My setup is a 5690x x99-a gtx970 hackintosh running 10.10.5, so it's not your usual setup. However I couldn't get on my i7 MacBooko Pro either...

Successfully patched using your code. Then I tried DVI, HDMI, HDMI with active displayport and only displayport. Tried using Nvidia webdriver and OS X driver.

I could return the monitors to the store, so now I'm on 2 regular 27" instead. :(

Before you return them, I think there must be a possibility to get them to work, but if you're at the expiration date of the return I would bring them back at full refund 😁, what cables are you using?

I've tried
— the included HDMI cable to HDM port in gtx 970 (should be fast enough as it came with a 4k monitor)
— the included Display Port to Display
— DVI to Display Port

Then on my Macbook Pro I've tried (with patch installed)
— HDMI + HDMI -> Active mini Display Port ( this one https://www.deltaco.se/produkter/kablar-adaptrar/displayport/adaptrar/DP-HDMI19 )
Couldn't try this on the main machine as I don't have mini display port.

The GTX 970 is a "Maxwell" based GPU EDIT: I think there is a different patch to enable more maxwell features, which is currently not supported by both osx drivers as the Nvidia Web drivers (if i recall correct) i have heard this patch will allow you to use HDMI2.0 but i have never tested this, i don't have a card that can handle HDMI2.0 the my gtx 670 can handle 4k@60Hz no problem over DP, did you try different MST/SST settings? my display is SST so i have no idea what the influence of MTS is. your 970 must be capable of driving both displays at 4K@60Hz

Thanks so much for your interest. I actually went back and re-bought the monitors today. :)

The two monitors are ASUS PB287Q and they are really ugly, both the picture quality and the hardware. But what the heck, they're cheap. The problem was, I realised that the factory preset is set to DisplayPort 1.1 (which doesn't support 4k 60hz). I had to manually change it to 1.2 deep in the on screen settings of the monitors. Since DisplayPort should be backwards compatible, this was so stupid the possibility didn't cross my mind.

I now got one up and running at 4k 60hz, but since I only have one DisplayPort out from my GTX 970, I have set the other now to a lower resolution.

Another fact is that the ASUS PB287Q only supports 4k 60hz using DisplayPort. It has 2 HDMI, but it's not HDMI 2.0 which is required for this resolution.

So, now I'm on the hunt for one of the following cables:
— HDMI 2.0 (Card) -> Displayport 1.2 (monitor)
— DVI (Card) -> DisplayPort 1.2 (monitor)

Many sells these cables, but none that I've talked to knows what DP version they are.
The struggle continues.

I have 4 things, that quite possibly don't work:
1: reverse DP to HDMI2.0
2: extra card in sli (just to use the port can be cheap/old)
3: does your motherboard TB or DP? Can be linked back from the GPU if so!
4: DP splitter, but I have no idea if DP can handle that: 2x4k@60Hz

I've looked around, and most 970 cards have multiple DP outputs.. Maybe you can swap this card with someone if the other options don't work..
