jq was compiled without ONIGURUMA regex library error

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to run this script on a machine running Batocera 41 (not a steamdeck). I'm getting the following error:

"jq: error (at :775): jq was compiled without ONIGURUMA regex library. match/test/sub and related functions are not available."

Then I get the message:

🧹 Cleaning up temporary modules...

and then it exits back to the terminal.

Any help with this would be immensely appreciated as I think this could be very useful for many batocera users.

Status review for v3.1.0: still open / likely not fixed.

Reason: this is about jq builds that lack ONIGURUMA support for regex functions. Current release changes did not fully remove regex-dependent jq usage across the compatibility pipeline.

Keeping this open for a compatibility patch (or fallback parsing path) for environments like Batocera.

I pushed a compatibility fix branch for this:

fix/issue-6-jq-compat

It removes regex-dependent jq filters (test(...)) and uses regex-free jq expressions, so it should work on builds without ONIGURUMA.

Could you please test with this installer URL and share the full output?

So went here: https://github.com/FlyingEwok/install-jdk-on-steam-deck/tree/main/scripts and downloaded your script and ran that, which appeared to work fine:

I applied the manual confit commands and that appeared to work:

[root@BATOCERA /userdata/system]# java -version
openjdk version "26.0.1" 2026-04-21
OpenJDK Runtime Environment Temurin-26.0.1+8 (build 26.0.1+8)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM Temurin-26.0.1+8 (build 26.0.1+8, mixed mode, sharing)

However, running the install-minecraft-splitscreen.sh still produces the same error as before. It is not detecting that I have installed JDK for some reason.

I am still running Batocera 41. jq --version is jq-1.7.1
