<p>In 2017, Microsoft, in partnership with the Team Gleason Foundation, developed eye control experiences in Windows to empower individuals with ALS to communicate and interact with their computers using only their eye movements.</p>

<p>The setup showcases a specialized configuration of a Surface Pro paired with an eye-tracking device, designed for hands-free interaction.</p>
<h3>Surface Pro with Custom Housing</h3><ul>
<li>The Surface Pro is securely encased in a custom housing unit created by Microsoft Research. The housing, made of a sturdy material with reinforced edges, protects the device and ensures stable mounting.</li>
<li>The Surface Pro is mounted atop a sturdy tripod with an articulating arm, allowing for adjustable positioning. This flexibility ensures the screen can be aligned perfectly with the user's line of sight for optimal eye-tracking performance.</li></ul>
<h3>Tobii Dynavox PCI Mini 4</h3><ul>
<li>Attached to the bottom edge of the Surface Pro is a Tobii Dynavox PCI Mini 4, a compact and powerful eye-tracking device.</li>
<li>The device uses advanced technology to track the user's eye movements, enabling precise control of the cursor and other interface elements in Windows.</li>
<h3>Eye Control for Windows 10</h3>
<li>The system is configured to use Eye Control for Windows 10, a built-in feature that allows users to navigate the desktop, type messages using an on-screen keyboard, and control applications through eye movements.</li>
<li>The technology is particularly beneficial for individuals with ALS or other conditions that severely limit hand and arm mobility, providing an accessible and efficient way to interact with a computer.</li>
<h3>Tripod and Station Setup</h3>
<li>The Surface Pro and eye-tracking device are mounted on a professional-grade tripod with adjustable legs and a central support column for stability.</li>
<li>A Station QR tag is attached to the tripod, offering visitors quick access to additional resources about the setup and its capabilities.</li></ul>
