Add drives to an ONTAP node or shelf

Summary

I received the following question from a customer in case 2010574125:
"Is it necessary to add six or more disks at a time not only for ASA r2, but also for existing ONTAP systems?"

The documentation states:
"The minimum number of drives you should add in a single procedure is six. Adding a single drive might reduce performance."

I have checked our internal documentation, but I could not find clear evidence that adding six or more disks is required.

My understanding is that adding one or two disks may cause performance degradation due to rebalancing, but expanding an existing aggregate with three or more disks should not be an issue.

If there are any internal NetApp documents, BURTs, or other references that clearly state that adding six or more disks at a time is required for standard ONTAP systems (not just ASA r2), could you please share them?

Thank you for your assistance.
