Summary

We disabled the requirement of export-policy rules starting in ONTAP 8.2 via bug 547444.

We have the option to enable the export-policy usage with SMB via this:
https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/smb-admin/enable-disable-export-policies-task.html

So in this document these steps are only required when the export policies are enabled. By default they are disabled.

There are probably more than one way to address this. My initial suggestion would be to move this page underneath the "Secure SMB access using export policies" section and note that is only required when the export policy setting is enabled.
