Error in computeVariantGrains Arrays have incompatible sizes for this operation.

Hello,

I’m encountering a problem when using computeVariantGrains, as shown in Example 07, while processing my EBSD data. All the lines of code before this line:

[newGrains, newEBSD] = computeVariantGrains(job);

run successfully.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? If so, could you please help me resolve it? I’ve tried this command on several EBSD datasets, and the same error occurs each time when executing this line.

Error in EBSD/subsind (line 84)
ind = ind(:) & subs{i}(:);

Error in EBSDhex/subsind (line 15)
ind = subsind@EBSD(ebsd,subs);

Error in indexing (line 34)
ind = subsind(ebsd,s(1).subs);

Error in computeVariantGrains (line 64)
newEBSD(isnan(cEBSD)) = remainingEBSD(isnan(cEBSD));

I have downloaded the latest version of MTEX and ORTools. I use the code from example 10 to process my data. The problem still exists. Could you kindly give other suggestions to solve it? Thank you!

Please read my answer in detail below.

I believe your issue is due to differences between ORTools and the latest version of MTEX released in 2025.
We are working on a new version of ORTools (along with new tools too!) that is completely compatible with the latest MTEX version - but its release is still quite a few months away.

So the quick workaround for now is to use the latest developer version of ORTools along with MTEX v 5.11.2.
