New entrant REZ trace changes #36

Description

The 2026 REZ trace data introduces a few changes compared to the 2024 version (some of which are more challenging that others - and will have cross-over questions and implications for the development of the core ISPyPSA package).

Introduction of Distributed resource traces.

This seems to specifically be for distributed solar, but significantly (and somewhat challenging) - at a different geographical resolution to other resource traces. Specifically, this is at the ISP sub-region level (there are 15 traces), rather than the REZ level (~46-49, depending on how you count Q8, see below)

Introduction of "DREZ's"

Not to be confused with the above - the addition of three new "REZ-like" zone's / id:

  • "DN1": Dubbo DREZ
  • "DN2": Yass DREZ
  • "DN3": Marulan DREZ

Splitting of QLD REZ ID Q8

There are three sets of traces for Q8, namely:

  • Q8a: Darling Downs
  • Q8b: Southern Downs
  • Q8c: Western Downs

Solutions / ideas

Think the first of these is most challenging (think the others are manageable). Will need some additional thought - but two options that come to mind include:

  1. Storing the distributed resource traces with the demand data (since this is already at the same geographic resolution, and there are PV traces associated with that data already).
  2. Storing the ISP subregion with the all trace data (as well as the REZ ID), and allowing REZ ID to be null in for the distributed resources / where no REZ is associated.
