Replacement for sphinx-hoverxref not working #494
Description
We were using sphinx-hoverxref before upgrading to newer sphinx.
It is not compatible with sphinx 9 anymore since it was deprecated/decomissioned.
The replacement, the so called "Link preview" addon in the ReadTheDocs settings, does not work correctly with our pydata theme.
Two options:
- Restore sphinx-hoverxref extension with Sphinx 8.2.3 #492 Use sphinx 8 which is still new enough to be run on the newer ubuntu we needed for circumventing Docs are stuck on 3.3.0 #483
- wait for Link previews: class
.tooltipcollide with Bootstrap's tooltips readthedocs/addons#666 and Detect Sphinx PyData theme readthedocs/addons#667
I think I'll go with the first, if the RTD guys do not need it as a test case.
We can still do a PR and the temporary PR build on Josh's RTD account that he somehow managed to add to CI can be used as a test case.
