Remove amdgpu-install as a rocm-cli installation method in ROCm 10.0 #180

Description

@saadrahim

Remove amdgpu-install as a rocm-cli installation method in ROCm 10.0

Component: rocm-cli · Target: ROCm 10.0

Summary

amdgpu-install is no longer a supported ROCm installation method and breaks against the new amdrocm-* packages on repo.amd.com. In ROCm 10.0, rocm-cli must hard-remove all use of amdgpu-install (no deprecation grace period) and install only via the supported methods: repo-native package-manager install (repo.amd.com), the runfile (.run) installer, or the tarball.

Why

  • amdgpu-install is being retired; legacy amdgpu-install/ packages on repo.radeon.com are frozen and not migrated.
  • The new amdrocm-* multi-arch/multi-version packages use a packaging scheme amdgpu-install can't resolve or pin — any rocm-cli flow relying on it breaks.

Acceptance criteria

  • No use of or reference to amdgpu-install anywhere in rocm-cli install-command construction, help text, or docs.
  • rocm-cli installs ROCm via repo-native (repo.amd.com amdrocm-*), runfile, and tarball.
  • Default install method is repo-native package-manager install when the user doesn't specify one.
  • Requesting the removed path returns a clear message pointing to supported methods.
  • Verified on ROCm 10.0.

Files to fix

  • apps/rocm/src/main.rs — remove amdgpu_install_rpm_url() / amdgpu_install_sles_rpm_url(); convert dnf_driver_plan() and sles_driver_plan() to repo-native install (mirror apt_driver_plan(), which is already repo-native); update the ~15 URL-asserting unit tests.
  • crates/rocm-core/src/examine.rs — replace AMDGPU_INSTALL_MARKERS detection with repo-native / runfile / tarball detection.
  • crates/rocm-core/src/diagnose.rs — redirect amdgpu-install remediation strings to supported methods (incl. check_12_amdgpu_install_broken).
  • crates/rocm-core/src/fix.rs — replace the "Reset amdgpu-install state and reinstall" fix.

Already repo-native (no change): SDK/userspace path in apps/rocm/src/therock.rs. Line numbers point-in-time — reconfirm against the current default branch.
