Reinstall wipes saves without warning or backup

I wanted to update my game & clicked re-install and then clone - to basically "re-clone" the game.

However it also wiped my saves without actually backing them up - even though I have enabled save backups.

Not going to lie, I was quite salty about that 😅 When you want to delete the game, there is a big fat warning in regards to losing data, but there is no visible way to "re-clone" the game from steam without losing my data.

I would think that no backup before data deletion is a bug 🙂

Sorry for the loss of the backups.

What steps did you do that caused the loss of your saves? I thought the only way to get rid of them was the click on the Purge button. There are other ways to delete and reinstall the game without using that button.

Don't worry. I lost about half of the day, so while it sucked, it was still something I could recover from. Had I lost whole save, I'd probably ragequit 😅

I clicked re-install, got this dialog telling me that this is the way to re-sync to a newer game version (which is 100% what I wanted) so I clicked "Confirm".

I did indeed get a chance to do a new clone, but with that I also got my saves wiped (which is 100% what I did not want). 😁

I think that before re-install, it should either automatically run backup - or atleast tell me that it is going to wipe my saves. Right now it seems like it creates backups when launching the game.

Take a look under C:\7D2D\Backups. Maybe the name was slightly off so it didn't pick it up? That's where the backups are stored.

That's where I found the older save 🙂 Unfortunately the latest one (before the re-install) was not there, only the last game launch.
