I think it installs the trial version. Plenty of places to get a licence on a budget online though

Most likely you can do so by using this key retrieved from the ACPI tables:

My laptop is an HP-EliteBook-840-G3 and I don't intend to go back to Windows. The key shown cannot be used on any other PC.
I've read somewhere that it works, for others it did not. YMMV.

Activation only fulfills the technical validation with Microsoft’s servers. It does not replace the legal requirement to possess a valid license obtained through proper channels ( OEM, Volume Licensing, ...), including appropriate proof of purchase (e.g. some invoice about buying your hardware with windows) or agreement documentation. Only both together constitute a compliant Windows installation.

I suppose so, but this is Windows in a Docker container. I don't think many people care that much about it.
