<h1><span class="header-section-number">2</span> Module Development</h1>

<p>BisQue Modules are analysis extensions to the bisque system that allow users to incorporate their own custom analysis scripts written in <code>Python, C++, Java, MATLAB, etc.</code> that perform high-end computations such as deep learning based methods for use by the system and others.</p>

<p><strong><a href="dockerfile.html#dockerfile">Dockerfile</a></strong></p>
<p>Docker can build images automatically by reading the instructions from a <code>Dockerfile.</code> A <code>Dockerfile</code> is a text document that contains all the commands a user could call on the command line to assemble an image. Using docker build users can create an automated build that executes several command-line instructions in succession.</p>
<p><strong><a href="module-xml.html#module-xml">Module XML</a></strong></p>
<p>The module XML file provides the user interface for a module. Instead of writing <code>HTML</code>, fill in the fields necessary for your module such as the input should be an image and the output should be an image as well, i.e. a segmented image.</p>
<p><strong><a href="source-code.html#source-code">Source Code</a></strong></p>
<p>The source code of a module can be written in almost any language. The way the code author structures their code—either in multiple files and folders or one large file—is also not an issue. Just make sure to copy all source code files into the Docker container.</p>
<p><strong><a href="python-script-wrapper.html#python-script-wrapper">Python Script Wrapper</a></strong></p>
<p>This script will enable the communication between the module and BisQue. If this script is not present, good luck.</p>
<p><strong><a href="python-setup.html#python-setup">Python Setup</a></strong></p>
<p>The <code>python setup.py</code> script is a standard in the python community. This will build the module.</p>
<p><strong><a href="runtime-module-configuration.html#runtime-module-configuration">Runtime Module Configuration</a></strong></p>
<p>This configuration script is simple: give a name to the module docker container. The other arguments can be left alone.</p>
