FWIW: on macOS, the Example.podium directory presents as a single file, by virtue of a content type registration - so, you can pass around a single "file" in Finder, but internally treat it as a directory.

I've contemplated adding a "zip" format of some kind, but that would make editing the content difficult.

Another alternative would be to add a TOML configuration file to describe key deck properties, and use that as the "single file" version on Linux and Windows. That would at least allow using a file extension other than .md.

The HTML file was part of an experiment to make slide deck printing and slide deck publication on Github Pages easier. Those experiments haven't really gone anywhere, though.

There's a quirky interaction with Gtk's file picker here that I think makes this more confusing: while the file picker lists .podium down in the bottom right, it won't accept folders as selections, even if they're named with a ".podium" extension.

Instead, it's necessary to recurse into the folder, pick the .md file and open that. So a potential interim workaround might be to limit the file picker to .md files on non-macOS platforms.
