use npm api instead of uploading node_modules

Just noodling with the idea of using the npm api instead of uploading node_modules when dealing with node.js proxies.

Could do this; what would be the benefit? Are we experiencing problems today?

some modules already exist, so we could eliminate some redundancy. Would make the upload smaller, which might get around that size problem for some proxies (not sure if that's only on upload or if same limit happens with npm up there).
