XcodeBuildMCP Uninstaller - Interactive Confirmation Feature

Problem Identified

User Feedback:

"it should let you proceed without having to exit and change the command"

Original Flow (Frustrating):

  1. User runs script in preview mode
  2. Sees what will be removed
  3. Has to Ctrl+C to exit
  4. Re-run with --force flag
  5. Enter same repository path again

User Experience: Tedious and unnecessary extra steps

Solution Implemented

✅ Interactive Confirmation After Preview

NEW Flow (Seamless):

  1. User runs script (no flags needed)
  2. Sees preview of what will be removed with exact line counts
  3. Gets asked: "Do you want to remove these items now? (y/n)"
  4. Types 'y' → Immediate removal
  5. Types 'n' → Skips this repository, continues to next

Example Output

Preview with Interactive Prompt

Cleaning documentation from: PfizerOutdoCancerV2
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
✓ Found: AGENTS.md - Will remove 16 XcodeBuildMCP line(s), rest preserved
✓ Found: CLAUDE.md - Will remove 11 XcodeBuildMCP line(s), rest preserved
✓ Found: .claude directory - Will delete (XcodeBuildMCP-specific)
ℹ Found 3 file(s)

Do you want to remove these items now? (y/n): _

If User Types 'y' (Yes)

Proceeding with removal...

Key Improvements

1. No More Exit/Re-run Cycle

  • User sees preview
  • Confirms on the spot
  • Proceeds immediately if desired
  • No need to exit and re-run

2. Per-Repository Control

  • User can confirm or skip each repository individually
  • Process multiple repositories in one session
  • Different choices for different repos

3. Case-Insensitive Input

  • Accepts: 'y', 'Y', 'yes', 'YES', 'Yes'
  • Accepts: 'n', 'N', 'no', 'NO', 'No'
  • Flexible user input handling

4. Maintains --force Flag

  • --force still works for automation/scripting
  • Skips confirmation prompts
  • Useful for CI/CD or batch operations

5. Safe Default Behavior

  • Preview mode is still the default
  • User must actively confirm
  • No accidental deletions

Technical Implementation

Python Script

# After showing preview, ask for confirmation
elif files_removed == 0 and not self.force:
    print(f"{YELLOW}{NC} Found {files_found} file(s)")
    # Ask if user wants to proceed
    response = input(f"\n{YELLOW}Do you want to remove these items now? (y/n): {NC}").strip().lower()
    if response == 'y' or response == 'yes':
        print(f"\n{GREEN}Proceeding with removal...{NC}\n")
        # Enable force mode for this repo only
        original_force = self.force
        self.force = True
        # Re-process this repo with force enabled
        self.remove_documentation_files(repo_path)
        self.remove_scripts_directory(repo_path)
        self.force = original_force
    else:
        print(f"{YELLOW}Skipped removal for this repository{NC}")

Bash Script

# After showing preview, ask for confirmation
if [ $files_removed -eq 0 ] && [ "$FORCE_DELETE" = false ]; then
    echo -e "${YELLOW}${NC} Found $files_found file(s)"
    # Ask if user wants to proceed
    echo ""
    read -p "$(echo -e ${YELLOW}Do you want to remove these items now? \(y/n\): ${NC})" response
    response=$(echo "$response" | tr '[:upper:]' '[:lower:]')
    if [ "$response" = "y" ] || [ "$response" = "yes" ]; then
        echo -e "\n${GREEN}Proceeding with removal...${NC}\n"
        # Enable force mode for this repo only
        FORCE_DELETE=true
        remove_documentation_files "$repo_path"
        FORCE_DELETE=false
    else
        echo -e "${YELLOW}Skipped removal for this repository${NC}"

Usage Scenarios

Scenario 1: Single Repository with Confirmation

$ python3 uninstall-xcodebuildmcp.py

Enter path to repository to clean: /path/to/repo
✓ Found: AGENTS.md - Will remove 5 line(s), rest preserved
✓ Found: CLAUDE.md - Will remove 3 line(s), rest preserved

Do you want to remove these items now? (y/n): y

Proceeding with removal...
✓ Removed 5 XcodeBuildMCP line(s) from AGENTS.md
✓ Removed 3 XcodeBuildMCP line(s) from CLAUDE.md
✓ Cleaned: 2 of 2 item(s)

Scenario 2: Multiple Repositories, Different Choices

$ python3 uninstall-xcodebuildmcp.py

Enter path to repository to clean: /path/to/repo1
✓ Found: AGENTS.md - Will remove 5 line(s), rest preserved

Do you want to remove these items now? (y/n): y
✓ Removed 5 XcodeBuildMCP line(s) from AGENTS.md

Enter path to repository to clean: /path/to/repo2
✓ Found: AGENTS.md - Will remove 3 line(s), rest preserved

Do you want to remove these items now? (y/n): n
Skipped removal for this repository

Enter path to repository to clean: [Enter to finish]

Scenario 3: Automated Script (Still Works)

$ python3 uninstall-xcodebuildmcp.py --force
# Skips all confirmation prompts
# Removes everything found
