{"name":"CLLD","tagline":"Cross-Linguistic Linked Data","body":"The goal of the CLLD project is helping collect the world's language diversity heritage as exemplified by Sino-Tibetan language family on the map below (from [Glottolog](http://glottolog.org/resource/languoid/id/sino1245.bigmap.html#4/29.00/103.49)).\r\n\r\n![Sino-Tibetan language family](images/sino-tibetan.jpg)\r\n\r\nThe Cross-Linguistic Linked Data project is developing and curating interoperable data publication structures using Linked Data principles as integration mechanism for distributed resources. \r\n\r\nThis philosophy allows for\r\n\r\n* small-scale efforts to publish individual databases like [WALS](http://wals.info) (World Atlas of Language Structures) or [WOLD](http://wold.livingsources.org) (World Loanword Database), thereby preserving the brands established by these projects, \r\n* while at the same time facilitating uniform access to the data across publications.\r\n\r\nWithin the project, this approach will be applied to publishing lexical and grammatical databases already compiled at the [MPI-EVA](http://www.eva.mpg.de) and elsewhere. This has led to a [software framework](https://github.com/clld/clld) which can then be used to develop database journals, i.e. edited collections of databases submitted by linguists from around the world.\r\n\r\nThe following databases either have current CLLD implementations or will at some point be available in the CLLD framework:\r\n\r\n* [WALS Online](http://wals.info) (World Atlas of Language Structures), edited by Matthew Dryer & Martin Haspelmath \r\n* [WOLD](http://wold.livingsources.org) (World Loanword Database), edited by Martin Haspelmath & Uri Tadmor\r\n* [APiCS Online](http://apics-online.info) (Atlas of Pidgin and Creole Language Structures), edited by Susanne Maria Michaelis, Philippe Maurer, Martin Haspelmath, and Magnus Huber\r\n* ValPaL (Valency Patterns Leipzig), edited by Iren Hartmann, Martin Haspelmath & Bradley Taylor\r\n* [eWAVE](http://ewave-atlas.org) (Electronic World Atlas of Varieties of English), edited by Bernd Kortmann & Kerstin Lunkenheimer\r\n* [AfBo](http://afbo.info): A world-wide survey of affix borrowing, by Frank Seifart\r\n* IDS (Intercontinental Dictionary Series), edited by Bernard Comrie & Hans-Jörg Bibiko\r\n* ASJP Lexical Database, edited by Søren Wichmann et al.\r\n* Numerals in the World’s Languages, by Eugene Chan\r\n\r\nThe following journals will soon be started for linguistic databases:\r\n\r\n* Journal of Cross-Linguistic Databases (JCLD), edited by Harald Hammarström\r\n* Dictionaria (journal of dictionaries of less widely studied languages), edited by Martin Haspelmath & Iren Hartmann\r\n\r\nFor the purposes of linking linguistic data uniquely to languages, language codes are needed for each language and each variety.
