Glitchy hidden waybar

• Description:
  • when I send waybar SIGUSR1 to hide it, it just glitches weirdly unless there are windows entirely covering where the bar was
  • it doesn't happen on regular Sway
  • it also happens when I reset the scale of my outputs
  • doesn't seem to depend on refresh rate

In my testing, this also happens in sway. It is not an excuse, and I have a fix for it, but it would be very different if it didn't happen in sway.

bindsym $mod+q exec killall -SIGUSR1 waybar

Pressing $mod+q will remove the waybar, and you will see pieces of the background where the bar used to be. Basically, damage is not computed correctly in that case.

This is a bug in Waybar.

The workaround until it is fixed, is to set the alpha of the background color to something smaller than 1. For example, in your style.css, set:

@define-color wb-background #000000;
@define-color wb-foreground #c5c8c6;
