Does not parse valid CSS/JS

When we minify a invalid (syntax errors) CSS or JS file, we get a successful minified version (with syntax errors).
Is there any way to have the tool print some error output instead?

The sqwish module is used for CSS minification. It is simply a set of regex rules for what to delete, so I don't think that would ever give better feedback.

But that project seems pretty dead anyway, I just haven't cared enough to look into maintained replacements.

If there is a tool for validating CSS syntax, it would probably be fine to include that in the CSS pipeline, but I have no interest in writing one myself.

uglify-js is used for JS minification. I am surprised if they don't fail with errors, since JS minification usually involves building an AST.

I know about uglify-js but that does not validate and minify css.

@fizker An issue, that doesn't get any better.

When it comes to CSS minifiers, imho the YUI Java implementation is still the benchmark.

Now. When you compare the latest sqwish implementation a) with the latest YUI CssCompressor.java and b) with other NodeJS/JS implementations of CssCompressor.java (e.g. cssmin.js, ycssmin, cssmin), you'll find that sqwish is the worst implementation of all. Well, it's fast. But several important bugfixes are missing in sqwish. Basically, in most cases sqwish will fail first. Or, to put it different, sqwish is your best bet for invalid results a.k.a. broken CSS. (Let alone options support.)

For another project, I was in need of a replacement for cssmin.js (actually that's how I got here in the first place ;)). After comparing all (/most?) available JS/NodeJS based CSS compressors, personally I found UglifyCSS to be the best choice. And it would be my recommended replacement for sqwish to be used by minifier too. So, you may wanna check that out.
