can't start on Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E7-8890 v3

Hi,
I installed numatop on my machine,but when I ran it using root user: I got the error msg:
"Fail to setup perf (probably permission denied)!"
My kernel is : Linux 3.12.48-52.27-default-spinlock #2 SMP Sat Apr 2 19:06:47 CST 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
CPU is : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E7-8890 v3 @ 2.50GHz
The cpu is haswell.
Do you have any advice ?

Too old linux kernel version. The required performance counters depend on latest kernel supporting. I suggest you to use 4.7+.

Thanks for your reply. But is there any other way to run it without upgrade kernel? Because upgrading kernel is a very big task for us. I have ran numatop on the same kernel version that which cup is not haswell architecture.

I’m sorry it can’t. The reason is that numatop depends on the Linux perf kernel strongly. For example, your kernel may support the perf counters which numatop needs on Nehalem or other old platforms. But when you switch to Haswell platform, you need the perf kernel supports the similar performance counters on Haswell. But unfortunately, the old kernel doesn’t support. So you have to upgrade to new kernel.
