I've managed to add myself to the required group (video) to access the camera itself, so the app is MOSTLY functional, but the part I'm having an excessive difficulty understanding is, what is required to access the flash? I've added a group and tied this group to the flash_strobe, but it still says it doesn't have access when it absolutely should. I don't know what else to do here.

It also complains about VIDIOC_SUBDEV_S_FRAME_INTERVAL not being a tty, but I'm unsure if it's related.

On my phone, flash_strobe has mode 644, so only the owner of the file gets write access. If you want to allow group access, you also need to chmod it to something like 664.
