Beavis and Butt-head in Virtual Stupidity (CD Windows) doesn't work in Libretro Core.

In ScummVM Windows Standalone the same game runs fine.

Please provide some details, the game crashes? When? Cannot be loaded at all?
Also provide a retroarch.log with verbose level set both for frontend and core.

I'll let @toniosj provide his log details, but this issue has been around since perhaps around mid-2025. The behavior "feels" similar to running out of memory.

Out of my library of over 100 supported games, here are games besides bbvs that yield similar behavior:
camelot, eob2, hoyle1, hoyle2, iceman, kq6, laurabow, lsl1sci, qfg1, qfg1vga, qfg2, sq1sci, sq3, sq4... I'm certain there are more.

Rebuilding after synching to commit 7310d4e (2.10.0git) does not exhibit this issue and all games launch fine. Clarifying: I don't suspect the issue started immediately after this noted commit -- but it behaves correctly. I recall initially experiencing the issue after an update around July of 2025.

For bbvs, this is the behavior launching with RetroPie via EmulationStation (which leverages RetroPie's runcommand script):

1. Using Raspberry Pi 5 (tested with an 8GB version on both Bookwork & Trixie OS)
2. Tested with RetroArch 1.21.0
3. Tested with multiple, modern versions of RetroPie
4. Launch bbvs via EmulationStation
5. Observe screen
6. Orange "ScummVM" screen appears for a few moments
7. Screen goes black and emulator exits (Segmentation fault)
   Verbose logging of runcommand yields nothing of consequence except for the SegFault:

/opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-scummvm/romdir-launcher.sh: line 9: 29766 Segmentation fault 

I'll add that sometimes, I've seen a launch get a smidgen past the Orange ScummVM screen, but will inevitably crash. The behavior is slightly inconsistent, which is why this "feels" similar to a memory issue.

bbvs looks good now.
All other reported games still crash at launch or shortly after launch. Let me know if you'd like me to open a new issue.

@roslof tested with kq6 and laurabow and it looks fine on my side, can you double check you are on b6a2bc0?

@spleen1981 Confirmed that I'm on b6a2bc0. bbvs works fine, so I recommend this issue be Closed. Separately, I'll look into possible issues on my device/setup since you're unable to repro the larger issue I reported. Cheers!

EDIT: It looks like all of the games from my list are from SCI engines. RetroArch 1.21.0 is throwing a bit of relevant data in the log:
...engines/sci/graphics/drivers/default.cpp:178: virtual void Sci::GfxDefaultDriver::copyRectToScreen(const byte*, int, int, int, int, int, int, int, const Sci::PaletteMod*, const byte*): Assertion `h >= 0 && w >= 0' failed.

I'll keep digging, but again, this is probably a unique issue and unrelated to bbvs
