is there a way to update the token or how do you handle that when the token has expired?

This library facilitates the authentication portion, it does not know nor care what kind of tokens you work with.

When you token expires, your client application needs to request a new token, but how it does this is entirely up to your application. The OAuth protocol uses refresh tokens for this, for example.
