Im unsure if this is possible as 7tv uses webm instead of png or gif

Also a thing to note: my current emote implementation is limited to 2048 registered emotes, as I am basically assigning each emote to a unicode character from a slice of the Private Use Area.

Can't you just use plane 15 and 16 in unicode? They both have like 65000 character points and are also part of the Private Use Area Planes.

The tricky thing about these planes is that each codepoint in them is made of 2 char values (and minecraft is rendering text char-by-char)
I might be able to make use of these, but it'd require me to do a litlle bit more FontRenderer hacking

Took me a while, but I've moved the emotes into the 16th unicode plane.
We should be able to implement these emotes now, without risking crashes after joining the 4th channel

amazing! does that mean "importing" the emotes from a specific channel would now be possible? (i.e. loading them on startup even if not connected to that specific channel)

The mod does import all emotes (including third-party channel emotes) from all joined channels on startup, but making it import from other channels shouldn't be that hard to implement. The functions are there, they just need to be called when we load the emotes.
I also need to implement the official channel emotes, those will probably be imported both on startup and during runtime (as chatters can use emotes from other channels, and it's not really possible to predict which channel emotes will be used)
