[Desktop][macOS] Generation fails out-of-box — 'Something went wrong with generating a response'

upon downloading the model on the Mac version and downloading a recommended model (Qwen 3.5 4B), clicking use, then going into chat I get "Sorry, Something went wrong with generating a response". Tried Qwen 3.5 0.8B, same result. With tools/connectors on I get "searching memory" for about a minute until the same error. Macbook air M4, 24gb memory.
