To overcome the ungraceful shutdown scenario

I have read the IEEE paper on this topic, and would love to know more about the way you handled the unplanned exit scenario. I have a similar idea in mind for my task, would really want to know the code aspect of it. I need to do it in C. I checked the stack and i am not able to relate with the UDP implementation of message checking every 250ms.
