[GSoC 2026] Proposal Interest — Store and Federate Package Metadata Files in PurlDB — Christine

Hi @JonoYang @pombredanne

I'm Christine, a Python/Django developer interested in contributing
to PurlDB for GSoC 2026.

I've already made two contributions to the repo:

• PR #848: Add PackageMetadataFile model (related to issue #840)
• PR #850: Fix throttle test cache reset

My proposed project is to extend the PackageMetadataFile work into
a full GSoC project covering:

1. Storing metadata files in PackageDB (issue #840)
2. Exposing them via the REST API
3. Integrating with FederatedCode for federation/defederation
4. Integration with ScanCode.io (issue #2080)

Could you help me confirm:

• Is this a good scope for a 175hr or 350hr project?
• Are there specific areas I should focus on first?
• Can I get mentor feedback on my proposal draft?
