adding threads for screws #4

Thanks for your great project.

I just ordered some PCBs of liv2 2MB Agnus adapter for the Commodore Amiga 500/2000/CDTV. It is the surface mounted version. So beside all the easy to obtain parts I needed a 84pin PLCCplug.

However, all theese plugs only hold by friction. I had this problem while transporting an Amiga2000 with an ACE2b 2MB ChipRAM inserted. The ACE2b became loose. As I inspected my A2000 before the next use, I found the problem in time, so nothing happend.

However, all theese Amigas have 2 holes in the PCB, so they can remove the chip by pushing from the underside instead pulling the chip from the surface. So I thought it might be great to have threads for m3 screws in the plug, matching up with the holes in the mainboards PCB. So after inserting the plug, simply adding two washers+screws from the underside would hold the addon-card with the plug firmly in place.

In this way the friction between plug and socet only is about a reliable contact. The mechanical stability would be ensured by the screws holding the plug in place, even on a rough transport or an accidental momentum (if the board is much bigger than the socket).

Just an idea. I might simply add fitting theads myself (or try to print on my CoreOne with a 0.15mm nozzle with polycarbonate blend - but in winter I cannot get the chamber temperature up to the neccessary 60°C - and add theaded inserts)
