Space app assignments still swap intermittently

Unfortunately, the Space app assignment swap issue has reoccurred (related to #17), even after previously confirming it seemed fixed in v1.13.8/1.13.9.

Observed behavior:

• The “Work” and “Home” Spaces swap all app assignments.
• When it happens, it affects all assigned apps — not just some.
• I have to either:
• Rename the Spaces in Spaceman (Work ↔ Home), or
• Manually reassign all apps to their intended Spaces.

This time it happened without any external display connected (MacBook internal display only).

Environment:

• 26.3 (25D125)
• Spaceman 1.13.9

What can you tell me about the circumstances? What were you doing when it happened? Is it reproducible?

I’ve now tried restarting 5 times with no external display connected. In 1 out of the 5 restarts, the Space names were swapped, so I had to rename them again.

I haven’t analyzed this systematically, but my impression is that it happens much less frequently than before. Yesterday I worked a full day at the office with an external display connected and disconnected multiple times, and also had several restarts due to an unrelated system error. During that time, the Space names didn’t swap at all.

This problem is hard for me to debug because I am not experiencing it at all (working at home with just the laptop screen and at work with an external monitor (mirrored).

As a workaround, are you aware that you can restore your preferences from file (first tab of preferences window)?

Thanks for the workaround — I’ll try restoring the preferences from file if it happens again.

Just now I experienced another occurrence: I had closed my MacBook for around 30 minutes, and when I resumed it, the Spaces had been renamed again. This time there was no restart involved.

I’ve now tested over the last few days with the option turned off, and I haven’t experienced any issues. So it seems that this was the cause of the problem.
