attempting to trigger “slam” effect results in damaged screen #27
Description
Hardware: MacBook Pro 14” (M4)
Operating System: macOS Sequoia 15.6.1
Application version: 1.0.3
Issue description: after attempting to trigger the app’s “slam” sound effect, the MacBook’s screen becomes inoperable, by way of cracked glass
Steps to reproduce:
- download LidAngleSensor.app.zip, and extract the .app
- run the application (either from the download location or after having copied the app package into the Applications directory
(alternately, download and compile from source) - once the app’s GUI has appeared, tilt computer around
- observe the app is properly displaying real-time sensor data in the GUI window
- ensure system volume is not muted
- click “Start Audio”
- gently adjust laptop's lid back and forth
- observe a (remarkably realistic and high-quality) door hinge creaking sound effect from the laptop’s speakers
- shut the laptop’s lid with extreme force and speed
What you expect to happen: observe aforementioned realistic and high-quality door hinge creaking sound effect played through the laptop’s speakers, pitched up to match the velocity of the laptop’s lid closing, followed by a convincing, loud “slam” sound effect of a door shutting forcefully into its jamb
What happens instead: observe no such “slam” sound; upon re-opening the laptop’s screen, observe the panel’s glass is shattered near where your hand had gripped it
Mention any workarounds or fixes: at this time, i have not found any fixes; the app becomes difficult to interact with unless an auxiliary display is connected, but the built-in panel remains broken; quitting the app does not solve the issue
Is this issue reproducible on-demand? yes. i have tried this issue with numerous other laptops, including a MacBook Pro 14” (M2) that belongs to my partner, and numerous MacBooks Pro of various screen sizes and configurations at several nearby Apple stores, resulting in a lifetime ban from Apple stores and several pending criminal charges
