Describe the bug
On KDE Plasma (Wayland session), setting a window to "Always on Top" via either the titlebar menu or Special Window Settings (Keep Above → Force → Yes) does not keep the window above XWayland applications running in borderless windowed or fullscreen graphics modes (e.g. games running via Steam/Proton).
The always-on-top window is visible when the game runs in bordered windowed mode, but is hidden behind the game surface when borderless windowed mode is used.
I also struggle to find a way to get the video player to not get 'stuck' to the edges of the screen. I like to have the playlist on the right side of the player, and to be able to drag that section of SMPlayer off the screen so that the video player is in a small window on the top right corner of the screen, while I play video games. I was able to do this with PotPlayer on Windows and I'm trying to set SMPlayer up the same way so I can use it likewise.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Load SMPlayer, play video
- Set 'always on top' in-app, as well as via window title / more actions / special window settings / keep above others - forced yes
- Launch Steam, launch a game such as War of Rights or Squad
- Run games in borderless windowed mode
- SMPlayer won't play on top of the game, unless I change game graphics to bordered window mode
- I also can't drag SMPlayer off the screen edge - I managed to one time with the help of Claude and trying different things, potentially rendering as XWayland or something I think it said, but it stopped working the next time I tried and could never get it to work again.
Expected behavior
Be able to keep the SMPlayer above borderless windowed game, and drag the player off the screen edge (Haruna lets me do this but likewise doesn't stay on top of the game window)
