channel-size-modifier units confusing

The channel-size-modifier was a bit confusing to me. Why is it expressed in fraction of a gigabyte to allocate, instead of just specifying the mem usage in a more standard format (e.g. 100M or 2G)?

The short answer is just that it was a nice uniform way of getting the number of bytes per channel without having to deal with parsing and validating arbitrary user input.

But I agree that using the standard method of denoting size would be more straightforward. I'm going to leave this as an open issue for an enhancement at a future point, since making that will not be that straightforward since the modifier value is pretty baked in all the way down the application at the time.
