0.7.0-Beta.1 OIDC connector initialization failed

Description

I've commented out the old _api_key function to try and use new .api_key.

I'm getting failure of the OIDC with the following log:

headplane | 2026-03-31T12:56:22.196Z [auth] WARN: OIDC connector initialization failed, will retry on next request

Im also getting the following error at the log-in screen

The OpenID Connect (OIDC) Single Sign-On (SSO) configuration has issues:
The provided API key for OIDC authentication is invalid. Ensure that headscale.api_key is a valid API key.

I can still access headscale using the api key that was generated and for the .api_key field. so I know its valid

Also, the headplane-agent is not showing as connected on the Machines tab, although under settings>>Headplane Agent its showing as Healty with a green dot and seems to be syncing fine!!??

I'm seeing the same when visiting /admin and being redirected to /admin/login.

This is a new Headplane installation, starting from v0.7.0-beta.1.

Using the very same API key from the configuration works, as described above.

Here the headplane-agent is also showing as Offline "0 minutes ago", but Healthy and Last synced: 0 minutes ago.

We are using GitLab as OIDC issuer.
