How to mock a file and it’s content?

I’m a great fan of unit testing and like your ideas, but how to fake a file, e.g. /etc/os-release?

I'm afraid I haven't tried anything out in this area yet. One option would be to add an extra variable to the script to prefix a different path when running in test mode, but I try to avoid doing things like that if I can - I prefer to not change the main code to allow for testing.

One idea I had is that maybe this could be done with chroot, but I haven't tried that out yet.

Do you have any ideas? Have you tried anything? Let me know if you do!

I haven’t tried either. In my special case I could handle this by a parameter pointing to test files... I will have a look to chroot once I’m back to work... thx
