Hi there,

Here is version 1.2 of GoodNeWS. Version 1.2 was developed to improve the
portability of the GoodNeWS system. The major difference with version 1.1
is that GoodNeWS now runs under the original NeWS1.1 environment. 
If there are any problems please feel free to contact me at home or at work
(I spent 75% of my time in Holland). Hope you like it....

*** IMPORTANT ***
To run GoodNeWS 1.2 you should set your NEWSHOME environment variable
to the NeWS1.1 directory. You should also have a GNHOME variable set to
the GoodNeWS home directory (this directory). To enter GoodNeWS mode at
startup you should copy (or link) the file ${GNHOME}/user.ps to your
home directory. This will cause GoodNeWS to be loaded at startup and
the RootMenu will be set the the GoodNeWS rootmenu. Remember to add
${GNHOME}/bin directory to your PATH. If you are using different machines,
make sure that your .login sets your path to use the appropriate bin.MACHINE
directory! The default is to use bin, which is linked to bin.SUN3.

*** CHANGES ***
-	The window/menu style has been changed. An attempt to approach
	the OpenLook window style was made. This was also done to avoid
	copyright problems with Apple Macintosh.
-	The file format of drawing files has changed dramtically. Old
	drawing files are upward compatible with the new format. The new
	format can NOT be used with version 1.1. The new file format is
	much more compact and drawings can be read much faster.
	Saving drawings is now done in PostScript (the news_server patch
	has been removed to improve compatibility) and can be up to two times
	slower.
-	A bug involving duplicating text objects in the drawing tool has
	been fixed.
-	TeX fonts now live in the ${GNHOME}/fonts directory.
-	Icons are now placed neatly at the bottom of the screen.
	All programs and tools now have an icon.

*** BUGS ***
-	You cannot copy/paste between NeWS and GoodNeWS windows.
-	The dialogs used by GoodNeWS are no longer 'robust'.
	This means that you can use other windows while the dialog
	is visible.
-	The NeWS menu choices which apply to all windows don't apply
	to GoodNeWS windows.
-	None of the bugs in NeWS1.1 have been solved -- but on the
	positive side we've found a lot.
-	There are occasions were NeWS crashes, this is indicated by the
	screen going all black. Feel free to ask SUN about this.
- 	The arrows of the scrollbars don't redraw properly sometimes.
	This is due to an old bug in Pixrects (not my fault anyway).
-	The terminal emulator does not work properly
	if you are logged in remotely.
-	The terminal emulator does not catch ^C properly when
	the terminal is displaying a lot of text -- use more or
	relax.
-	We have not tested this release on SPARC -- sorry but ours
	has gone away.  GoodNeWS 1.1 worked OK on SPARC.
-	The screen is sometimes not updated properly when working at large
	magnifications in the drawingtool (newsdraw). 
	Typing function-L9 (to Redisplay) solves this problem temporarily.
