ShreyasBakare/README.md

Hi, I'm Shreyas 🙋🏻‍♂️

I recently started my doctoral (PhD) research in Particle Physics as part of Prof. Lea Caminada’s group at the Physik-Institut of the University of Zurich (UZH)

My work focuses on High Energy Physics (HEP) experiments, specifically the ones at CERN, like:

I am based at the HEP group of Laboratorie für Teilchen-Physik (LTP) within the Center for Neutron and Muon Sciences (CNM) at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland🇨🇭

Background

I completed my Master’s in Physics at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune in 2025. During this five-year integrated Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (BS-MS) program, I worked on various semester projects focusing on CMS physics analysis starting in 2022 (more on this in projects section).

For my master's thesis, I worked with Prof. Sourabh Dube’s group at the Experimental Particle Physics department of IISER Pune, where I explored the use of Graph Neural Networks (GNN) for different tasks in experimental HEP.

In 2023, as a CERN Summer Student, I worked briefly on the ATLAS Experiment at the LHC for a new physics search.

Beyond Lab

Outside of my research, I enjoy building automation tools and am passionate about making physics accessible to a general audience through visual storytelling.

  • Science Communication: I create content and build toy models to simplify physics topics. One of my YouTube interviews has even surpassed 100,000 views.
  • Academic Initiatives: I led the "Lagrangians to Lasers" (L2L) journal club to foster a community between junior and senior physics students. To enhance our reach, I developed the L2L website and automated our digital presence.
  • Sustainability: I am also passionate about environmental impact, and have contributed to climate action initiatives as an intern at the 14 Trees Foundation.
