I don't want to accept this until we discuss the Python 3 switch with the entire group. Especially if this code isn't compatible with Python 2. |

It's not backwards-compatible but the new Docker image only has Python 3. |

This PR updates the code to Python 3 to match the new release of the bdd-docker image (which now uses Python 3).
