This patch might have detrimental side effects, but I don't remember the flaws the update could provide. Please take extra care and don't merge easily. Because CI and RTD builds work well, maybe it's in the area of packaging or development?

On the other hand, I might be mixing this up with the corresponding update Admin UI, which I've deliberately put on hold.

In this spirit, I'd say: Let's go for it. When problems happen, it's not too difficult to roll back, by yanking a release on PyPI and by reverting this commit in Git.
