Addition of a new remeshing scheme that aims to maintain layers of approximately uniform height. Fresh fresh snowfall events are merged into a common layer until a pre-defined height threshold is reached and a new layer is created.
Note: layers are not strictly forced to be exactly uniform - compaction and differences in snowfall mean they will always be slighly different.
This method is commonly used in some alternative energy balance firn models (eg. https://doi.org/10.5194/tc-6-641-2012) and interestingly can provide quite different results to the adaptive scheme - I am currently unsure exactly why.
