Motivation
I wanted to use
webpack-streamwith Webpack 5'sfilesystemcaches so that we can improve incremental build performance when starting Webpack again. I used a Webpack configuration similar to:I noticed that:
npm run webpackoryarn webpackwith this configuration, a cache directory would be created (innode_modules/.cache/webpackwebpack-stream(used in a Gulp script), the Gulp task would exit without creating a cache directoryAfter digging into error messages a bit, I realized that:
webpack-streamcallsconst compiler = webpack(...)andcompiler.runto start a compilation taskWebpack's docs recommend that on finishing compilation, we run
compiler.closeto make sure that cache-writing happensChanges
watching, add a call tocompiler.closeand move the stream closing/callback calls to only aftercompiler.closefinishescompiler.close()presenceTesting
Added an automated test. Also, ran this with my (much larger) project and verified that this worked as expected
