Using the "null" backend can cause build errors, at least when building on macOS, and after having modified the "audio" header file to use it.
These changes helped me build using the null backend, or something else (a new backend?) based off of it.
Please feel free to let me know if this is ok, or if changes are warranted. I made these changes while poking around at creating a new backend. :-)
