On a completely fresh install I confirmed that a homebrew installation of
bcftoolsdoes work fine. It didn't work on my M5 MBA, so unsure if I experienced a blip, or if there is a real reason my local install was broken. Either way, I've added a section at the start of thebcftools and samtoolsinstallation doc to confirm that homebrew is an easier way, and that guide should only be used as a last resort. The authentication section on that guide is explicitly referenced from elsewhere, as it's relevant no matter how the tools are installed.
