Using Bots
TradeWars Bots provide powerful automation of game play and are almost required to become a competitive player. They allow you to send bot commands to yourself or a teammate to complete common tasks. Each bot command can be handled internally, or launch an external script to complete the task.
TWX 2.6 has new features for improved bot support, including a new SwitchBot command that allows one bot to easily load another bot. You can also quickly load bots directly from the notification icon pop-up menu.
There have been a lot of private bots that were not released to the public, including Kraaken bot and other perma-corp specific bots. Xide's x-bot, oz's bot, and SupG's bot are included with the public scripts distributed with the new TWX Proxy installer, but those bots were written before the anniversary edition and there is not documentation on how to run them.
There are currently two public bots to choose from:
Mombot Mind ()ver Matter bot is by far the most popular bot. With over 250 commands at your fingertips, you should be able to easily dominate your opponent. Mombot is an extendable platform, so many players have written add-ins for the bot. Many of these add-in are private and only shared with friends or teammates. The latest version of Mombot is fully compatible with v1.xx and v2.xx game servers. Be sure to check out the Mombot Reference for additional information.
ZedBot is a powerful bot written by Archie and Vid Kid and is fully compatible with v1.xx and v2.xx game servers. Zedbot is Mombot compatible, so it can directly run any script written for mombot and external mombot commands. It provides features that are more focused on the local user including a double tap menu, crawler, and a help search feature. Many of Zedbots features are based on Kraaken bot making it is a bit more aggressive. Archie released the source code for Zedbot to the public domain and an "Authorized" version is included in TWX Proxy. Check out the Zedbot Reference for more information including a list of Authorized Commands that were previously redistricted to ZedCorp members.
Which Bot?
Which bot you choose is a personal decision. I would start with Mombot because it is easier to learn, and most of your friends are probably already using it. If you haven't used a bot before, the best way to learn is to play with someone already familiar with the bot.
